Harlech Swimming Pool is due to close next year. We're a local campaign group fighting to keep the pool open. So far, we've managed to persuade Gwynedd County Council to postpone the closure for a year until April 2009.

We still need lots of help, and the pool needs your support. Closing the pool contradicts the current drive to make Wales a healthier and fitter nation. The swimming pool in Harlech is a vital leisure facility. It is used by

:       Those who live along the coast of west Wales from the Mawddach estuary in the south to the Glaslyn estuary in the north, from Dolgellau to Penrhyndeudraeth, a distance of approximately 30 miles. Users also come from many inland villages and towns.

People of all ages, from small toddlers to octogenarians.

The many visitors who spend their holidays here - it's one of the few indoor facilities in the whole area.        All the competitors in the very successful Harlech Triathlon, who come from all over Britain and abroad.

The eight local schools, whose children learn to swim at the pool. Swimming is the only sport specifically named under the National Curriculum 2008. Without Harlech pool, there would be nowhere for these children to go. The only other local pool - at Porthmadog, 10 miles away - has no space for them. In an area with many rivers, streams and pools, and where children play by the sea, being able to swim is vital.  If you'd like to help, please contact us.
