Friends of Harlech Swimming Pool

Welcome to the site of Friends of Harlech Swimming Pool

Harlech Swimming Pool is due to close next year. We are a local campaign group fighting to keep a pool in Harlech. Keeping the old pool open, or a smooth transition to a new pool is our aim.

We still need lots of help, support and donations to achieve this. Closing the pool contradicts the current drive to make Wales a healthier and fitter nation. A swimming pool in Harlech is a vital leisure and fitness facility.

Who will be affected:

The eight local schools whose children learn to swim at the pool. Swimming is to be a legal requirement on the National Curriculum 2008. Without Harlech pool where do these children go!. There are many issues to which the Gwynedd council do not have satisfactory answers. For these children who live and play by the sea learning to swim is a vital life skill.

Harlech Swimming Club:   Currently approximately 25 members train on a regular basis, to improve there swimming skills and many are competing and winning medals in copetitions. The hard work that has been put in by swimmers, coaches, organisers, volunteers, will all be lost. This cannot and must not be allowed to happen.

The Harlech Triathlon:     All the competitors in the very successful Harlech triathlon who come from all over Britain and abroad. The added effect this will have on the local economy.

Holiday makers:        The many visitors who spend there holidays here - its one of the few indoor facilities in the whole area.
